Story of Sarah and her Golden Retriever Freya

It took me a while to convince my husband to adopt our Freya. He has never owned a dog before and wasn’t sure he “wanted” one. Of course, now he is the one that can’t be separated from our Freya and is worried about her every minute when we are away from home. But I am getting ahead of myself.

We got Freya from a local breeder 5 years ago. She was and is an absolute Golden Dog! She fully justifies her breed name. When she was little, she was a little more active than she is now (well, a lot!). She would run around the house like crazy and was soo active we had to take her out several times a day for a really long walk so she could let out all the energy.

Of course, we had to bathe her lost because she would get into stuff. Brushing was and is a regular chore. She loved swimming (and still does)! But most of all she loves other people and dogs. I have never noticed how many dogs live in our town. With Freya, we have to come up and say hello to each and every one every time we take her for a walk.

My husband thought we should teach her to be calmer and less enthusiastic, but she is getting calmer herself as she ages and I think she actually has so much fun meeting other dogs that I don’t want to take that away from her.

She is a very, very happy and enthusiastic dog. She wakes up with a smile and it stays on her face pretty much all day. She shares it with everyone around her. I must say, it’s definitely worth all the cleaning we have to do, some chewed-up shoes and furniture and some vet bills we had to pay when she was sick a couple of times. We love her to the moon and back. I would highly recommend a Golden Retriever as a pet for a family, especially with kids. Prepare that it won’t be your pet, but a member of the family!

Og! And did I mention Golden Retriever are gorgeous? We have never had any plans of showing her on a show ring or anything like that, in fact, I don’t know if she has the needed characteristics for that. But she is simply a beauty with her shiny long coat and her proud stature. Sometimes we just can’t help but enjoy just looking at her as she runs around the park or relaxes in the grass. Sometimes I still don’t believe she’s mine.
