Golden Retriever breed review by Mandy and and her Golden Pepper
Golden Retriever is all around a wonderful dog! But I wanted to say first and foremost, that you need to be confident you are ready to become a responsible dog owner before you get any breed! This is responsibility for life (of your pet!) and you need to be sure you can uphold that responsibility for as long as they live. If there is even a sliver of doubt, please think twice and maybe put this decision off for a while.
Maybe you work too much. Or maybe you have children and don’t have time for a pet. Or maybe you are not ready financially for such responsibility. Whatever it is, please wait till you are fully ready to commit to a dog before you get one. It will just make life so much easier for both you and the dog.
My Golden Pepper is truly a dream come true for me. My boyfriend actually gave him to me for my birthday, and, although I think giving anyone a pet as a present can be a pretty risky idea, for us it worked wonderfully. Maybe because Tom knew I have dreamt about a Golden forever, and we were both ready to have one.
Pepper is truly amazing. Even when he was a puppy, he hasn’t ruined a single pair of shoes and didn’t chew up anything except for his toys and bones. He was extremely smart – and still is. I was amazed at how quickly he learns new commands and even just words, how he starts to understand a lot of the things that we are saying. He also learned peoples’ names!
As he grew bigger, he is still the same charming, affectionate, and loving dog he was as a pup. He loves us and our family and makes our life so much better. Whenever I am sad, he is there and it’s like he can feel what I feel. He is such a joy to have around and we would never be without him. Of course, he is also a lot of responsibility. Walking, feeding, vet bills, and we have to think about where to leave him every time we go on vacation. But he is so worth it and we wouldn’t have it any other way.
