Golden Retriever owner review ( Kelly and her Golden Retriever Jerry)

I got my Golden Retrierver Jerry about 5 years ago and I am pretty much in love with him, so this is going to be a biased review. But truth is truth 🙂

I wanted a dog like this for a long time, but for a while I oculdn’t decide between a Labrador Rteriever and a Golden. In the ned, a friend of a friend told me about their Golden and how much they love him, and I decided. A few months later I had my Jerry – a tiny puppy back then. I can’t say it was very easy right away: even though he was tiny, Jerry required lots of work and care. He could easily chew up half of my house, and, what’s worse, some electrical fire. I wanted to keep him from danger and from starting a fire so I had to watch him day and night for the first couple months. But, once he matured a little, it all got much easier. I can leave him alone in the house now and I pretty much am sure he won’t touch the wires and my sofa will be safe.

What can I say about Jerry? He is all around a wonderful dog. He is very loveable, it’s hard to not hug and squish this goofy fluffball. Of course, the fluffball also sheds like crazy and I need to clean at least daily now, usually twice a day, just to keep the floor from being covered with dog hair. He also has a pretty strong doggy smell, but that’s whats you get when you decide to live with a dog.

Jerry is very smart and very easy to train, He learns commands very quickly and is usually quite biddable. I don’t plan on teaching him lots though, it’s not really one of my passions. But I always admire how he seems to catch certain words out of the human speech, such as “walk”, “toy”, “dog”, “park”, and react enthusiastically to those words. It’s really like living with another human being except they can’t talk back to you. But I doubt any human being could love you t he way your dog could, and especially a Golden Retriever. They are very loving, very much attached to their humans. He is with me all the time when I am home, and sleeps right next to my bed. (On the bed is forbidden.)

This dog wouldn’t be good for someone who doesn’t have time for their dog, and definitely for anyone who doesn’t like cleaning up! Dog hair, dog hair, dog hair. But other than that, this is the best friend one could ever hope for!
