When looking for a German Shepherd, remember there are working and show German Shepherds. What is the difference?

Show German Shepherds are usually larger than working lines (over 65 cm in height) and usually have brighter coat colors than working lines. They are also calmer and are a great family companion for a family that isn’t interested in doing too much training with their dog.

Working lines are bred to work, which means that work is in this dog’s genes. They need regular training and a job to do, whether it be service work, guarding, protecting property or people, etc. This type of German Shepherds are much more active, driven, may be more aggressive and are generally purchased by people that have a particular job for the dog to do.

As such, they are also thoroughly healths screened and hip and elbow testified. Check out their website to learn more about their dogs and puppies here.

As always, German Shepherd owner breed review for you to enjoy:

Here are some of the pros and cons of owning a German Shepherd that you need to know before you make the decision to contact the breeder and buy your puppy.

This is a very talkative dog. Mine “talks” all the time, by barking, growling, howling, yelping etc. They tend to loudly express all of their emotions, especially when they disagree with you about something. Like cutting a walk too short or going out on  rainy day.

They are also very smart. I would even say cunning. They will always be looking for a way to outsmart you or cut corners when you want them to do a trick or follow a command.

Remember, this is a very active dog. Even if it’s a show dog, and especially a working dog! You will need to take them out for a walk at least twice a day, preferably three times, and one of these walks should be very, very active, as in your German Shepherd running around, playing, rolling in the dirt, etc. Any active entertainment you can offer. Otherwise, they will become bored, frustrated and ultimately destructive. Or worse, aggressive!

German Shepherds are also extremely loyal and devoted. This dog will follow you around the house, everywhere from your couch to the bathroom! Just get used to it.

A well-bred German Shepherd is a very confident, calm dog that’s also very smart, watchful and attentive. They watch everything and everyone and are always ready to protect you. They shouldn’t be afraid of anything or act nervous.

German Shepherds can be aggressive, but usually mostly to other dogs, not people. Nevertheless, I highly recommend investing time in training your dog.
